Lee Jae-myung Vows to Unite a Divided South Korea After Election Win

Lee Jae-myung is South Korea's new president. He won the election with 49.4% of the vote. His rival, Kim Moon-soo, lost. Kim was from the same party as the former president Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from office.

Yoon had tried to bring in martial law, which caused political chaos. Many people were angry and saw this as a threat to democracy.

After his win, Lee said he would unite the country. He spoke in front of parliament and said he would never let democracy be hurt again. He promised to end the politics of hate and create a fair government.

Lee also said he would set up an emergency team to help fix the economy right away.

This win is big for Lee. In the past, he faced many problems, including corruption claims and family issues. But many people voted for him to show their anger at the former government.

Some experts say people didn’t vote for Lee’s ideas. They just wanted to protect democracy.

People who support Lee gathered at parliament. One man said he waited all night to see the new president. He hopes Lee keeps his promises and makes laws fair for everyone.

Another supporter said the country had been in a bad place. Now he feels hopeful again.

But Lee still has big problems. He is waiting for a court decision. If found guilty of breaking election rules, things could get worse. However, presidents can’t be punished for crimes unless it's about treason or war.

The country is still divided. Some people still support Yoon and believe martial law was needed. Some even think the election was not fair.

A younger politician, Lee Jun-seok, may become the new leader for these voters. He is popular among young men and has strong views, especially against feminism.

This election had the highest turnout since 1997, with 79.4% of people voting. Many wanted change. Now, Lee Jae-myung must try to turn that anger into hope.
