Ukraine’s Drone Strike Shows It’s Still in the Fight

Ukraine launched a bold attack on Russian air bases using drones. The operation, called "Spider’s Web", may have caused billions in damage. While the exact amount is unclear, the attack was clearly a big success for Ukraine.

It took 18 months to plan. Ukraine secretly brought small drones into Russia using freight trucks. The drones were then launched at air bases across the country.

Experts say about 40 Russian bombers were hit. These bombers can carry long-range missiles. Some of them, like the Tu-160, are rare and hard to fix or replace.

Even if the bombers weren’t destroyed, the damage is still serious. Russia might not be able to repair them soon.

More than just hitting planes, the attack sends a big message. Ukraine wants to show Russia, and its Western allies, that it is still strong and fighting back.

Some in Ukraine feel the U.S. and others think Ukraine is losing. But Ukraine disagrees. It wants the world to see that it can still fight — and win.

As peace talks begin again, Ukraine is making its point clear: it has not given up.
