Ukraine Accuses Russia of Blocking Peace Talks

Ukraine's president says Russia is not serious about ending the war. Russia said it will join peace talks in Turkey on Monday. But Ukraine says Russia has not sent its ideas for the meeting.

President Zelensky said Russia is trying to make the meeting fail. He said talks must be planned well to work. Ukraine has sent its own peace plan and wants a full ceasefire.

The last meeting in Turkey led to a prisoner swap but no big progress.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Now, it controls about 20% of Ukraine, including Crimea, taken in 2014.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister said Russia must agree to stop fighting before real peace talks can start. He said Ukraine wants peace this year.

Leaders Zelensky and Putin will not attend the next meeting. But Turkey hopes to host them soon. Turkey also wants to bring in President Trump to help talks.

Russia said its peace ideas will stay secret. It wants to see progress before any big meeting.

Trump's advisor, Gen Keith Kellogg, said Russia’s fear of NATO is fair. He said Ukraine won’t join NATO now. He also said Trump wants talks to go on.

Trump and Putin spoke on May 19. They talked for two hours about a US plan to stop the war. Trump said the call went well and hoped talks would begin soon.

Ukraine agrees to stop fighting for 30 days. Putin only said he wants to talk about a future peace plan. Ukraine says Russia is using this to gain more land.

Trump later called Putin “crazy” and warned of US sanctions. This came after Russia hit Ukraine with big drone and missile attacks.

Germany’s new leader, Friedrich Merz, said his country will help Ukraine make long-range missiles. Russia said this would make peace harder.
