Small Plane Crashes in San Diego Neighborhood, Causing Fatalities and Home Damage

A small plane crashed into a street in San Diego on Thursday morning. Several people on the plane are believed to have died.

No one living in the area was badly hurt. But Assistant Fire Chief Dan Eddy said there were “more than one” death among the people on the plane.

The crash happened in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood. Several homes were destroyed, and cars caught fire. Police said about 100 people had to leave their homes for safety.

The plane was a Cessna 550. This type of plane can carry 8 to 10 people, including the pilot. The names of the people on board have not been shared yet.

Fire Chief Eddy said there was jet fuel all over the area. Crews are checking homes and making sure everyone is safe. Some homes took a direct hit, but no one inside was badly hurt.

Police said one person was taken to the hospital. Two others were treated and sent home. The area will be closed for the rest of the day.

Videos show burned cars in the street.

A man named Christopher Moore said he and his wife heard a loud bang. They looked outside, saw smoke, and ran out with their two children. On the street, they saw a car on fire.

“It was really scary,” Mr. Moore said, “but we just had to run and stay safe.”

A marine nearby told Fox News he heard a strange whistling sound, then a loud boom that shook his house.

The plane was heading to Montgomery Field, an airport about six miles north of downtown San Diego.
