North Korea's Kim Jong Un Slams Warship Launch Failure as 'Criminal Act

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, is angry after a big accident during a warship launch on Thursday. He called it a "criminal act" that cannot be allowed.

State news said part of the 5,000-ton ship’s bottom was crushed. This made the ship tip and lose balance.

Kim was there when it happened. He said the ship must be fixed before a big party meeting in June. He also said the people who designed the ship must be punished. He believes the accident hurt the pride of the country.

The report did not say if anyone was hurt.

Kim blamed the accident on carelessness, poor planning, and bad science. He said the people at fault will be dealt with at next month’s meeting.

It is not clear how they will be punished. But North Korea is known for being very strict. People have been jailed for small things, like watching South Korean shows or trying to leave the country.

North Korea does not often admit to accidents. But this is not the first time.

Last November, the country said a military satellite blew up in the sky. Officials were blamed for not being ready.

In August 2023, another satellite launch failed. The country said it was due to a small problem in the emergency system.

This new ship accident comes just weeks after North Korea showed off another 5,000-ton warship. That ship is said to carry more than 70 missiles.

Kim had called it a big step in building a stronger navy. He said it would be ready to use early next year.
