Trump Says Elon Musk Will Still Be Involved After White House Exit

Elon Musk’s work at the White House has ended, but former President Donald Trump says Musk will still be involved.

In a press talk, Trump said Musk will be “back and forth” to the White House. He called Musk’s work on Doge — the Department of Government Efficiency — “his baby.” Doge is a group that tries to cut U.S. spending and save money.

Musk had to leave because he reached the 130-day limit for “special government employees.”

Doge is not a real department, but an advisory group. It says it has saved $175 billion. But a BBC report found only $61.5 billion was listed, and just $32.5 billion had proof.

Musk made big changes that led to many job cuts and the end of most U.S. aid programs. His companies, like Tesla, faced protests and falling sales.

Trump praised Musk for leading the biggest government reform in years. Musk said Doge will still work hard to save $1 trillion.

The meeting came days after Musk told CBS he was upset about Trump’s new spending bill. Musk said the bill goes against Doge’s goals. Trump, however, said the bill is “amazing.”

Trump said he still wants bigger tax cuts and more savings.

The press event got tense when a reporter asked Musk about a story claiming he used drugs during the 2024 campaign. Musk didn’t let the reporter finish. He instead brought up Trump’s lawsuit against the New York Times.

When asked about a black eye, Musk joked that his young son, X, punched him. “Turns out even a five-year-old can hit hard,” Musk said.
