Four people have died and over a dozen were hurt after a strong hailstorm hit Delhi and nearby areas on Wednesday, local news says.
The storm knocked down trees, caused power cuts, and blocked roads with water. This led to big traffic jams.
In Mumbai, heavy rains also flooded parts of the city. These were early monsoon rains.
India’s weather office says heavy rain is likely on the west coast for the next 6–7 days. Many states, especially in the south, will see rain and storms soon.
In Delhi, almost 50 flights were delayed and about 10 were sent to other airports, the Hindustan Times reported.
One flight, by IndiGo airline, got stuck in the hailstorm while flying to Srinagar. A video shows scared passengers screaming as the plane shook in strong winds.
The airline said the plane landed safely. But a photo showing a damaged nose of the plane is going around online. The airline has not said anything about the picture.
The Delhi Metro gave a warning on X (formerly Twitter). It said delays may happen because trees and debris have fallen on the tracks.
In Mumbai’s Andheri area, videos showed plastic and trash floating in the water. People blamed poor waste handling and a bad drainage system.
Earlier this week, heavy rain hit Bengaluru (also called India’s Silicon Valley). Four people died in rain-related accidents.
Videos from the city showed people walking through deep water. Some cars were stuck, and water entered some homes.
India gets 80% of its yearly rain during the monsoon, from June to September. Farmers depend on this rain to grow crops, as many places do not have irrigation.
But experts say climate change is making weather more wild. Unusual rain, floods, and dry spells from heat are happening more often. This is hurting millions of people.
