An Israeli air strike hit the home of a doctor in Gaza. Nine of her 10 children died. The hospital where she works in Khan Younis said this.
Nasser hospital said one child and her husband were hurt but survived.
Graeme Groom is a British surgeon working at the hospital. He operated on her 11-year-old son. He told the BBC it was very cruel. The mother helps many children as a doctor. But she lost almost all her own children in one strike.
Israel's military said its planes hit “a number of suspects” in Khan Younis on Friday. They are checking if any civilians were hurt by mistake.
A video shared by the Hamas-run health ministry showed burned bodies being taken from the rubble in Khan Younis. The BBC checked the video and found it real.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said their planes hit “a number of suspects” near IDF troops in Khan Younis.
The IDF said the area is a dangerous war zone. They said they moved civilians away before their operations for safety.
On Saturday, the IDF said they hit over 100 targets in Gaza in one day.
The health ministry said at least 74 people were killed by Israel in the 24 hours before midday Saturday.
Dr Muneer Alboursh is the health ministry director. He said Dr al-Najjar’s house was hit minutes after her husband came home after driving her to work.
The oldest child was 12 years old.
Mr Groom said the father was badly hurt. Another doctor posted a video showing this.
The father had a head injury. He has no links to politics or the military. He is not known on social media.
Mr Groom said the situation is hard to imagine for Dr al-Najjar.
Her son Adam is small for his age. He had a badly damaged left arm and many injuries.
Both parents are doctors. Adam was lucky to get care. But he looked younger than 11 when he went into surgery.
The boy may live. The father’s chance is not clear.
Mahmoud Basal, a Hamas Civil Defence spokesman, said his teams found eight bodies and some hurt people at the al-Najjar home.
The hospital first said eight children died. Later, it said nine.
Another doctor said he found Dr al-Najjar waiting for news about her son. He tried to comfort her.
A family member said, “Enough! Please have mercy on us. We ask all countries, the world, Hamas, and all groups to have mercy.”
He said, “We are tired of moving and hunger. Please stop.”
On Friday, the UN chief said people in Gaza face the hardest time in the war. He spoke against Israel’s blockade on help to Gaza.
Israel lifted the blockade a little this week. They let 83 trucks with food and medicine into Gaza on Friday.
The UN said this is not enough for the 2.1 million people in Gaza. They say 500 to 600 trucks a day are needed.
Some food came into Gaza this week. But there was chaos. Some people attacked a food convoy. Others crowded bakeries to get bread.
A UN report said Gaza’s people are at risk of famine.
People told the BBC they have no food. Mothers without enough food cannot feed their babies.
Water is also running out. Plants that clean water need fuel. The Israeli attacks make many people move again.
Israel says the blockade is to pressure Hamas to free hostages in Gaza.
Israel says Hamas steals supplies. Hamas says this is not true.
Israel started its attacks after Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023. About 1,200 people in Israel died. 251 were taken hostage.
At least 53,901 people in Gaza have died since then. This includes 16,500 children, said Gaza’s health ministry.
