North Korea Arrests Officials After Warship Launch Failure

North Korea has arrested four people after a new warship tipped over during its launch. The accident made leader Kim Jong Un very angry.

The ship is a 5,000-ton destroyer. It was built at a shipyard in the city of Chongjin. It tipped over and damaged its bottom part.

Kim called the mistake a “criminal act” that hurt the country’s pride.

The most senior person arrested is Ri Hyong-son. He works as a deputy director in the Munitions Industry Department. He is also part of the military commission that controls the army.

Three other people were also arrested. They worked at the shipyard. One was the chief engineer. Another was in charge of building the ship. The last was the office manager.

The ship is now being fixed by a group of experts. North Korea says repairs will take about 10 days. But experts in South Korea think it might take longer.

North Korea says the accident was caused by carelessness and bad planning.

This is the second warship like this in the country. Kim wants to build up the navy to stand up to the U.S. and South Korea.

Even though the accident was a big failure, North Korea says it will keep working to grow its military power.
