North Korea has attacked the US’s plan for a new missile defense system. It says this plan could cause a nuclear war in space.
The new US system is called the Golden Dome. President Donald Trump says it will help stop new types of missile attacks. These include ballistic and cruise missiles.
North Korea says the plan is dangerous and selfish. It thinks the US wants to control space. North Korea’s leaders say the plan could lead to a new arms race in space and around the world.
An expert, Hong Min, said North Korea is worried. He believes the Golden Dome could stop North Korea’s nuclear missiles. If that happens, North Korea may try to build new weapons to get past it.
In 2022, North Korea passed a law to call itself a nuclear country. It has tested many missiles since then. Early this year, it said it tested a new missile with a hypersonic warhead.
China also does not like the US plan. It says the Golden Dome could hurt world peace. China thinks the US only wants to protect itself, even if it hurts others.
The US has put $25 billion into this plan so far. But experts say it could end up costing much more. Some also say it will be hard to build and could face problems in Congress.
The Golden Dome gets its name from Israel’s Iron Dome, which has shot down many rockets since 2011. But the US faces different threats from bigger and longer-range missiles.
Russia said it wants talks with the US about the plan. But it also said the US has the right to build its own defense.
