Tottenham Players Face Medal Mix-Up After Europa League Win

After Tottenham won the Europa League, three players had to wait for their winner's medal.

Manager Ange Postecoglou was the first to get a medal. Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin gave it to him after the 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Injured players James Maddison, Timo Werner, Lucas Bergvall, and Will Lankshear (who had been on loan at West Brom) were also given medals.

But captain Son Heung-min, Cristian Romero, and Rodrigo Bentancur did not get theirs right away. They had to wait until they got to the dressing room.

Uefa explained the mistake. They said they didn’t expect so many players to come on stage. Because of this, they didn’t have enough medals ready.

"More players than expected joined the ceremony, so we ran out of medals on stage," Uefa said. "We gave the rest of the medals to the team in the dressing room and said sorry for the mistake."

Uefa gives 50 medals to both the winners and the losers. Each club can choose who gets them.

Uefa had 30 medals ready to give out on the field. But more people showed up. That included the 23-man squad, the manager, and some injured players.

Son, the captain, waited at the back of the line. He wanted to get the trophy and then give it to his teammates. He only got a hug from Ceferin at first.

Later, Son was seen wearing his medal. It was his first big win in his career.
