The cast of the US comedy Cheers has shared tributes after George Wendt died at age 76. He played Norm Peterson on the show.
Ted Danson, who played bar owner Sam Malone, said, "I’m so sad to hear that Georgie is gone."
Kelsey Grammer, who played Frasier Crane, said, “I think mourning should be private. But I liked George a lot. Many people loved him.”
Wendt played Norm in all 275 episodes of Cheers, which aired from 1982 to 1993. He got six Emmy nominations for best supporting actor in a comedy.
His family said he died peacefully in his sleep at home early Tuesday morning.
A family rep told the BBC, "George loved his family and was a dear friend. We will miss him always."
Danson said, "I’m sending love to Bernadette and the kids. It will take time to get used to this. I love you, Georgie."
Wendt got together with some of the cast — Danson, Grammer, Rhea Perlman, and John Ratzenberger — at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Perlman said, "He was the sweetest, kindest man I ever met. I’ll miss him more than words can say."
Ratzenberger said, "I’m heartbroken. We shared a stage, many laughs, and a great friendship on screen."
Melissa Joan Hart, who worked with Wendt on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, shared her thoughts too.
“He was warm, kind, and so professional. We were lucky to work with him. Rest in peace!” she wrote on Instagram.
"Heaven just got a little funnier."
