Djokovic Wins in Geneva, Starts Quest for 100th ATP Title

Novak Djokovic made it to the quarter-finals at the Geneva Open. He beat Marton Fucsovics in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. This was his first win on clay since winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Djokovic turns 38 on Thursday. He will soon head to Roland Garros to play in the French Open. There, he hopes to win a record 25th Grand Slam title.

This win in Geneva was big for Djokovic. He had lost his last three matches. He went out early in Madrid and Monte Carlo after losing the Miami Open final in March.

Djokovic is the second seed in Geneva. He is ranked sixth in the world. He will next play Matteo Arnaldi of Italy for a spot in the semi-finals. Taylor Fritz is the top seed at the event.

“It’s great to break the ice,” Djokovic said after the win. “Clay is hard to play on. You need to hit more shots than on other surfaces.”

“I’m happy I played well when it mattered. I stayed focused and liked how I played. I hope to keep this form.”
