Salah Wins Premier League Player of the Season Award for Second Time

This is the second time the 32-year-old Egyptian has won the award. The winner is picked after the public votes and football experts vote. He also won it in 2017-18.

Salah helped the Reds win the Premier League this season. He beat his team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch. Gravenberch was named young player of the season.

Gravenberch, who is 23, leads all Premier League midfielders with 59 interceptions. He also wins the ball more than any other Liverpool player.

Other players who could have won were Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.

This is the first time since 2018-19 that a Manchester City player did not win.

The young player shortlist also had Liam Delap (Ipswich), Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest), Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Joao Pedro (Brighton), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), and William Saliba (Arsenal).

Before Sunday’s last game against Crystal Palace, Salah had 28 league goals. This is five more than any other player. He also had 18 assists. This is six more than anyone else and two less than the record of 20 by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.

This season, Salah became the top-scoring foreign player in Premier League history. He passed Sergio Aguero’s 184 goals. He also signed a new two-year deal to stay at Anfield until 2027.

This month, Salah was named Football Writers' Association footballer of the year for the third time. He got over 90% of the votes.
