Ed Sheeran played a fun set at Radio 1's Big Weekend. He surprised fans by showing up on the New Music Stage on Saturday in Liverpool.
He said he chose that stage because he had never played there before. He also said the tent had "the best energy".
But not everyone got in. The tent was so full that people were stopped from entering for a while.
Before his show, there were rumours about a big guest. Then Radio 1 posted on Instagram that it was "the one and only" Ed Sheeran.
He last played Big Weekend in Coventry in 2022. This was his fifth time at the festival.
Sheeran is soon going on a tour in Europe and the UK. Myles Smith, who sings "Stargazing," will join him.
Many fans rushed into the tent. Ellie, David, and George were some of them. They called Sheeran "the biggest artist in the world".
Ellie said, "It's absolutely mental."
David said, "It’s a mental pull – it’s amazing what he does musically."
But some people thought he should have been on the Main Stage. That way, more fans could have seen him.
Scarlett and Kate didn’t get in. The tent was full.
Kate said, "I messaged my mum when it got announced. Her and my sister were so jealous. I said, 'I’ll send you videos!' But I’m not going to be able to."
Over 100,000 people are expected at Big Weekend in Liverpool. About 100 acts will play on four stages.
Later on Saturday, Sam Fender will play the Main Stage. On Sunday, Mumford & Sons will headline.
Other acts on the final day include Tate McRae, Lola Young, Jorja Smith, Wet Leg, and HAIM.
